Wimpy and Madoff

An insidious connection has emerged between Bernard Madoff, organizer of the largest Ponzi scheme in history, and J. Wellington Wimpy.

“I would gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today,” noted Mr. Wimpy in 1932.

At the age of six, Mr. Madoff (born 4/29/38) may have been reading the Popeye strip, where the comment appeared, and the proverbial light bulb went on.

Expanding upon Wimpy’s criminal remark, Madoff hatched a scheme.

From the mind of a six-year old, hundreds lost millions.

All because of the lowly burger.
